A Christmas to Remember (2015)

TitleA Christmas to Remember
Year of Release: 2015
Available On: Amazon Prime, September 2017
Rating: 0.5 out of 5 Jingle Bells

This appears to be a black remake of Romeo & Juliet set at Christmas time. I’m already in love with the idea. The problem is the production – this is an indie film, or it was shot to feel like it was done with an iPhone. Parts of it are out of focus and it’s really distracting at points. Like, don’t watch it if you are prone to motion sickness. But there are a lot of positives! Let me regale you with them:

  1. The music is way above average. I want the whole song that plays during opening credits.
  2. The cast is promising, especially for what I am guessing is a low budget.
  3. Some LOL moments in the beginning.
  4. When Momma holds court with all the young women and gives her P’s…

Cons: there are A LOT of characters. And they aren’t really well introduced, so I couldn’t keep track of who was a Ford and who was a Shepherd. I’m not into some of the patriarchal ideas about love… but hey, to each their own. It didn’t ruin the movie either. They also cram A LOT of happenings into the plot line.

I was really here for this movie until the homophobia plot line. At this point, it’s what the fuck ever. The resolution isn’t satisfactory considering his father just choked him in front of his whole family. Then he goes in on all his other kids? Fuck this family. Fuck this father. Then he goes in on the Ford children? No no no. This movie sucks. And then Momma Ford has to face him and say goodbye? Oh hell to the no. No no. She isn’t hard enough on him. I honestly feel like he should be grateful that all he got was his ring back. Then it’s on the youngest kids to make it better? I cannot even with this plot. Drinking and driving is not ok. WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS PLOT. Reid and Lauren get into an accident and he has been drinking and what the fucking fuck.

Don’t watch this movie. They bit off too much and couldn’t execute. This is truly one of the worst accidents I’ve ever seen in my whole life.
